DirecTV Now Launches Amidst Many Issues

The new live TV streaming service from AT&T, DirecTV Now, debuted last Wednesday offering a free seven-day trial and attractive introductory prices. However, reports say that many of the first-time users experienced troubles with the streaming service.

DirecTV Now service from AT&T is an alternative to the traditional satellite or cable TV services, and offers more than a hundred channels for just $35 – this is a great deal, even though that is an introductory price. The service streams over the internet, works on more than one device at the same time, and does not use mobile data on AT&T networks. The free device offers and free seven-day trial has attracted many sign ups on the launch day of the service, but together with many complaints.

It was seen that many complaints on the streaming service issues surfaced on the launch day. TVPredictions even said that the launch of DirecTV Now was a complete nightmare. “Subscribers also complained that channels wouldn’t load when clicked on, that their screen would sometimes go blank while watching, and that they would get error messages saying their device wasn’t compatible although it was on the list of compatible devices,” the site reported.

The most frequent error message reported was “error 60.” In this particular error, the service fails to load and wrongly claims that the user has exceeded the maximum allowed number of simultaneous streams, which is set at two for an account.

Launch Day Issues

An AT&T spokesperson said that the company is aware of the issues, and is working to solve them. A few hours after the article was published by TVPredictions, AT&T followed up with an official statement saying, “We experienced an issue last night that prevented some customers from streaming. Engineers resolved the issue and we haven’t experienced it since.” The Twitter help page of AT&T has been responsive to the complaints of users.

The consumerist site says that live NBC channels were not available on the non-mobile devices (even though on demand shows of NBC were available) on DirecTV Now service. Responding to that, DirecTV officials said that it is a technical issue and will be solved in coming weeks.

Twitter complains on the official website of the company is very common and launch day issues are not new for large rollouts. The social media response of DirecTV Now is much admirable and many users reported trouble free operation.
