Charitable Support  Programs

The officials from Comcast® NBCUniversal recently announced that they have awarded an approximate amount of $188,000 in scholarships to 178 Pennsylvania High School Seniors for the 2017-18 school year. This move from Comcast® NBCUniversal is actually a part of their annual Leaders and Achievers® Scholarship Program. The innovative program is currently funded by the Comcast Foundation®, which recognizes the brightest and best high school seniors for their leadership skills, academic performance, and community service.

The regional senior vice president for Comcast®, Christine Whitaker said, “Our Leaders and Achievers Scholarship winners exemplify leadership and are committed to academic excellence and community service. We are honored to recognize their achievements, and excited to support them as they continue their educational journeys.” The officials from Comcast® along with City of Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse and Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera recognized the high school students in a special event, which was held at the State Museum of Pennsylvania.

All of the 2017 Pennsylvania Leaders and Achievers® recipients were awarded with a scholarship of $1,000. However, one high school student, Adrianna Mowrer of Perkiomen, received a scholarship of $10,000 in honor of the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Comcast Corporation®, Ralph J. Roberts. In addition to that, 10 students also received Samsung Chromebooks in a prize drawing. These students will be able to use the device at their respective colleges.

The governor’s Secretary of Education, Pedro Rivera said, “Governor Tom Wolf joins me in congratulating these gifted students for their outstanding achievements. Ensuring a first-rate education is Gov. Wolf’s top priority for Pennsylvania, and these young people exemplify what excellence in teaching and learning can mean for every student. We also commend the Comcast Foundation for its ongoing charitable support of programs like this scholarship.”
