Comcast® Introduces Wireless Phone Service With 6 Kiosks In Chicago

Xfinity® Mobile Retail Stores

Comcast® is planning to make ripples in the wireless phone industry with the launch of six Chicago-based Xfinity® Mobile retail stores. These kiosks are embedded in the existing Xfinity® stores of Comcast® and provide the latest Apple iPhone® and Samsung Galaxy® models, mobile plans and packages and a nationwide network. The hybrid network combines 4G LTE service making use of cell towers of Verizon® and the 17 million Wi-Fi hotspots of Comcast®.

If you are an existing Comcast® customer, you will be able to take advantage of the wireless service. Statistics shows that Xfinity® has about twenty five million internet users and a customer base of twenty nine billion. All these customers will be the target for the latest mobile offering from Comcast®, revealed Randall Hounsell, who is the vice president of product and marketing for Xfinity® Mobile.

It is projected that the traditional pay TV providers will lose about eleven million users nationwide by the end of 2021 to reach about just eighty two million households as per the report published by the research firm Kagan. However, the streaming services like Sling TV®, PlayStation Vue®, and DirecTV Now® are expected to serve eleven million households by the end of 2021.

Latest Mobile Offering

Ian Olgeirson, who is the research director for Kagan, said that the search for alternatives to the pay TV services is on the rise, even when the bundle subscriptions are appealing to the users. “We don’t see anything that indicates that is going to slow down anytime soon,” Olgeirson said. Introducing wireless phone services to their existing offerings of internet, home security, television, and home phone can be a good way for Comcast® to control the trend of cord cutting.

Comcast® offers an introductory monthly rate of just forty-five dollars per line and up to five lines for unlimited best internet, with a two-year price guarantee and without any contracts. The introductory offer will expire in August and the rate will shoot up to sixty-five dollars per month then. Olgeirson said that Comcast® is facing big competition in wireless services. “I think that it will be well-received by its customers, but there’s nothing that sets the wireless component apart from every other service that’s being offered,” he said. “But I do think they will look for ways to differentiate down the road.”
