Comcast® Offers Gigabit Internet In Seattle And Other Cities

Gigabit Internet Service

There is happy news for Comcast® customers in Seattle and other parts of Washington, as they will now have access to the gigabit internet service from the fastest internet provider. Officials from Comcast® recently announced the extension of their high-speed internet service to cities like Seattle, Kent, Burien, SeaTac, Renton, Tukwila, Vashon Island, and Vancouver. They also added that they would be offering access to Tacoma and Bellevue later.

Comcast® executives said that they will be using DOCSIS 3.1 technology to deliver gigabit internet to the customers over existing communication lines, rather than building new infrastructure to offer improved speeds. “We are excited to be able to provide our Seattle residential customers with 1 Gig speeds using their existing home wiring,” Amy Lynch, Comcast’s regional senior vice president said. “We know Seattle is a hub of tech innovation and are committed to ensuring our customers have the speeds and reliability they need to do great things, even if it’s from the comfort of their couch.”

These speeds are not offered at cheap rates though. The price for the new gigabit service from Comcast® will state at 159.95 dollars per month for the users who do not have a contract. There is also a promotional pricing of 109.99 dollars a month, but that is for those users who agree to have a one-year contract. For those who would like to have their own modem rather than paying 10 dollars per month for the modem from Comcast®, the DOCSIS 3.1 upgrade can be expensive. These users will have to pay 160 dollars or more for the modem.

High-Speed Internet

As per the city of Seattle, more than 170,000 households already have access to gigabit internet offering from Wave Broadband® and CenturyLink®. The gigabit service from Wave® is advertised at rates of 80 dollars a month, whereas CenturyLink® is offering their super fast internet service at 149.95 dollars per month without any contract or bundle and for 70.95 dollars per month as part of Prism TV® bundle packages.

“All Seattle residents need access to competitive internet options,” Michael Mattmiller, chief technology officer for the city of Seattle said. “Today’s announcement means that the vast majority of Seattle residents have access to gigabit broadband internet service, increasing economic and educational opportunities that will improve our community’s quality of life.”
