Netflix And Comcast Join Hands

Netflix Comcast Merger

It is shocking to hear that Netflix has made their biggest deal with their rival, Comcast. But that’s true folks! Comcast and Netflix have now announced a partnership, and with this, viewers can stream Netflix with the Comcast set top box. As per the new deal, Netflix streaming services will be incorporated to X-1 box offered by Comcast as their next generation streaming platform.

“We have much work to do before the service will be available to consumers later this year,” the companies said in a joint statement. “We’ll provide more details at that time.” However, neither Comcast, nor Netflix, has shared the exact details of the deal.

With this new deal, the tension between Comcast and Netflix will be put to an end. For instance, in 2012, CEO of Netflix, Reed Hastings accused that Comcast has violated net neutrality, as they favored their own internet video services. Hastings also publicly opposed the merger between TWC and Comcast.

Despite of all the opposition from mainstream cable providers, Netflix continued to increase their customer base, and also managed to make deals to host popular shows. It is also reported that Netflix would go into another multi-layer agreement with the CW Network. This agreement is made to continue streaming of the shows The Flash, Jane the Virgin, Supergirl, and many more.

Streaming Vs Cable

Currently, Netflix has more than 81 million subscribers but the network is still towered by Comcast. Comcast has managed to generate around 18.8 billion dollars in the first quarter of this year, whereas Netflix managed to bag only 1.8 billion dollars in the same period.

This deal will be much beneficial to Netflix, as it will open the possibilities of gaining customers and increase the chances of retaining their current customers. “Customers simply don’t want to have to jump through hoops to access streaming services, and they shouldn’t,” says Paul Verna, an analyst at eMarketer. “It should be as simple as clicking one button or activating one app. So I think this is definitely a plus for both Comcast and Netflix customers.”
