AT&T recently announced that it was planning a 4K channel for next month as part of their DirecTV satellite TV service. The launch of the channels will be kicked off by coverage of the Golf Master’s Tournament, which right now seems the best way to showcase elevated experience that 4K offers. A channel dedicated to that has been on subscribers’ minds for a long time now, and people with the right equipment can enjoy the most vivid details of the tournament, which is to be held at Amen Corner.
4K UHD technology allows viewers to get about 4 times the resolution of HDTV with sharper detail, smoother lines, and a wiser palette of colors. Experts say viewers would be able to perceive the spin of the ball, which at the consumer level is the height of realistic viewing which can be enjoyed with a TV set. While the technology has been here for over a year, the Master’s Tournament will mark the beginning of its offering in a channel, as opposed to On-Demand footage.
COO at AT&T, Dan York, said that people will get the “best viewing experience” for golf’s premier event, and went on to say that people who watch TV this way would soon be hooked to the option.
April’s Master’s broadcast on the DirecTV 4K channel will cover all four rounds of the events, spanning April 7 to April 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 pm EST. The 11th, 12th, and 13th holes at Augusta National will have common reference, and if you are not familiar, this spot is a scene for some of the sport’s most critical plays.
Subscribers with 4k UHD broadcast in their home will need some things to be able to watch 4K on the new channel.
DirecTV had launched 4K UHD VOD in November 2014, and at the time it was the first TV service to do that. Dish, a close rival, then brought out the Dish Hopper 3 which offers 4K among other things. But this is the first time either of them will be kicking off a 4K channel.
