We know that it was DirecTV who delivered first live 4K programming broadcast. This was back in April, and the transmission covered all the four rounds of the Masters Golf Tournament. After that, they telecasted the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament and other League Baseball games as well. The game changing move of DirecTV however, is the live telecast of the US Open in 4K.

The customers of the DirecTV packages can go to channel number 106 to see holes 3, 13, and 17 transmitted in 4K Ultra HD resolution. This channel is only available in DirecTV Ultimate or DirecTV Premiere packages. In addition, the subscriber needs to have Genie HD DVR device and a television that can play 4K resolution videos.
Do not worry if you don’t have a TV that supports 4K Ultra HD videos. The broadcast is also available on channel number 705. This channel is available in High Definition and you can watch 4 channels via the Mix channel option in the service. Users also have the option to access bio of each player, leader boards, groupings, and tee times from the service.
4K Ultra-High Definition TV broadcast of DirecTV was the first of its kind in the country. The Masters Golf tournament was the inaugural event of the dedicated 4K channel of DirecTV. DirecTV executives says that 4K offers great sharpness and picture quality to the videos, but it will be difficult for a normal customer to differentiate between 4K videos and normal HD videos.
Streaming service providers like Amazon Video and Netflix also offer videos and shows in 4K. Ultra High Definition Blu-Ray videos are also a growing trend these days. Let us hope that the introduction of 4K channels will help DirecTV to woo more customers to their services.
