They\u2019re going to have to rebuild that. So they&#8217;re in a dangerous moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Richard Plepler, who is the chairman and CEO of HBO, said that data and curation have played important roles in the success of HBO. Rutledge and Plepler spoke from the DealBook Conference conducted in New York City, which was moderated by CNBC anchor and The New York Times columnist, Andrew Ross Sorkin, and hosted by editors of The Times.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cOver 70 percent of our viewing is theatrical movies,\u201d Plepler said. \u201cIf you can understand that a consumer likes a sci-fi genre or comedy genre \u2026 to the extent that you can go out to that consumer and say, \u2018Here\u2019s what\u2019s coming,\u2019 or, \u2018Let us introduce you to \u201cWestworld,\u201d\u2019 that is tremendously effective in cutting churn and in stickiness, keeping that subscriber with us for an extended amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1775\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1775\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1775\" class=\"wp-image-1775 size-medium\" title=\"Content Providers\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Charter-Communications-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Charter Communications\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1775\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong><em>Viacom In Danger<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The advent of online viewing has offered HBO access to data on the preferences of viewers, but the data is not used by the producers and authors to guide storylines of the content. The data helps HBO to differentiate their brand and make customers happy via curation. \u201cWe\u2019re as good as the people who come in to work with us. The magic of talent is out there. Our job is to get it in our doors,\u201d Plepler further added. \u201cEvery Friday there&#8217;s something on our desk that we didn&#8217;t know about Monday. That&#8217;s one of the exciting privileges of being in my chair.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is to be noted that under the leadership of Plepler, HBO has offered the most popular subscription VOD products like Cinemax on Demand, HBO on Demand, MAX GO and HBO GO. Under his guidance, HBO has offered hits like \u201cTrue Detective\u201d, \u201cLast Week Tonight With John Oliver\u201d, and \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d, and has embraced latest technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OTT and On-Demand content is important, but bundles will be there, as they are the most efficient way to sell and buy content. \u201cWe\u2019re not expecting that people are going to watch \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d or \u201cWestworld\u201d on phones, but you can catch up on \u201cJohn Oliver\u201d,\u201d Rutledge commented. \u201cWe are selling lots of cable.
