However, many analysts firmly believe that the merger between the two parties is less likely to happen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The principal analyst at MoffettNathanson, Craig Moffett recently stated that he doesn\u2019t think that this deal will happen. \u201cWe doubt it can or will happen,\u201d he said. \u201cTo be sure, we understand why Verizon would be interested. The next generation of wireless will be about small cells with small radii. And every one of those cells needs to be connected to a wire. That means lots and lots of wires. And Cable has the most wires.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the other hand, there is an emerging belief among many companies and investors that no corporate merger is too anti-consumer or too big enough for the Trump regime, but Moffett does see a number of challenges that may prevent the merger between the two companies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLet\u2019s leave aside the legal questions of whether Verizon could permissibly speak with Charter at all while the anti-collusion \u2018quiet period\u2019 rules of the incentive auction are still in effect,\u201d he added. \u201cThere are two bigger hurdles to clear. The first is financial. Can Verizon afford it? We suspect not. The second is regulatory. Could a Verizon\/Charter deal clear anti-trust hurdles? We\u2019re not sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2191\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2191\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2191\" class=\"wp-image-2191 size-medium\" title=\"Corporate Merger \" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Charter-Spectrum-Internet-2-e1486464818407-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"Charter Spectrum Internet\" width=\"300\" height=\"186\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2191\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong><em>Charter Communications <\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moffett focused on the financial part of the merger between Charter Communications and Verizon and noted that, \u201cin order to consummate a deal, Verizon would have to pay a price that Charter would be willing to accept, using a currency that Charter would be willing to accept, and do so without exceeding untenable leverage ratios or an unsustainable dividend payout ratio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added, \u201cThe clearest take away from this week\u2019s earnings reports is this: cable is a much better business than wireless. That may seem obvious&#8211;cable earns much higher returns, and Comcast\u2019s cable business is growing at 8% per year while Verizon\u2019s and AT&amp;T\u2019s wireless businesses are both shrinking&#8211;but it doesn\u2019t seem to be close to being fully reflected in the two sectors\u2019 relative valuations.
