The three companies jointly made this announcement on behalf of the decision made by the congress in scrapping the internet privacy regulations passed under the tenure of President Obama. Customers have expressed concerns that their internet activity and personal data will be collected and sold to third parties without prior permission. The US House of Representatives has made this decision by passing the legislation to overturn the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">AT&amp;T\u2019s senior executive vice president of external and legislative affairs, Ben Quinn stated, \u201cWe had the same protections in place the day before the Congressional resolution was passed, and we will have the same protections the day after President Trump signs the CRA into law. The Congressional action had zero effect on the privacy protections afforded to consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Comcast chief privacy officer, Gerard Lewis also echoed a similar statement. He said, &#8220;We do not sell our broadband customers\u2019 individual Web browsing history. We did not do it before the FCC\u2019s rules were adopted, and we have no plans to do so.&#8221; He also further stated that Comcast is considering a revising of its privacy policy. This is clearly reflected in his statement, &#8220;to make more clear and prominent that, contrary to the many inaccurate statements and reports, we do not sell our customers&#8217; individual web browsing information to third parties and that we do not share sensitive information unless our customers have affirmatively opted in to allow that to occur.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2376\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2376\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2376\" class=\"wp-image-2376 size-medium\" title=\"AT&amp;T Internet\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Best-Internet-Service-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Best Internet Service\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2376\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Secure Internet Service<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Karen Zacharia, Verizon\u2019s chief privacy officer has stated about the existence of two programs using customers browsing data. She stated that &#8220;Let&#8217;s set the record straight. Verizon does not sell the personal web browsing history of our customers. We don&#8217;t do it and that&#8217;s the bottom line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The FCC has previously passed the Broadband Consumer Privacy Rules as it deemed the data collection policies of telecom companies as an intrusion into the privacy of internet users. These rules enacted by the FCC would have prevented internet providers like Comcast, AT&amp;T, and Verizon in collecting their customers browsing data without their permission.
