Joan Marsh, who is the SVP of federal affairs at AT&amp;T<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> said in a statement that Title II on the net neutrality rules has not done anything but lead to uncertainties for AT&amp;T<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and the other internet providers in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWhen the 2015 reclassification Order was adopted, Chairman (then Commissioner) Pai and Commissioner O\u2019Rielly objected vigorously on both legal and policy grounds,\u201d Marsh said. \u201cPutting that kind of straight jacket on internet providers served no beneficial purpose, addressed no harm and, predictably, suppressed investment. American consumers will be better served by a return to the light touch regulatory regime that garnered bi-partisan support for decades and fostered infrastructure deployment, innovation, freedom and entrepreneurship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> also shared similar sentiments in their statement about the FCC\u2019s move. \u201cCenturyLink strongly supports a return to a light-touch regulatory framework that classifies the internet as an information service as opposed to a public utility,\u201d they said. \u201cRemoving excessive and over-reaching Title II public utility-style regulation will lead to more innovation and investment and help ensure the internet continues to evolve and expand to meet customers\u2019 ever-growing online demands.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> added that it \u201cis committed to an open internet that allows our customers to access all the lawful content of their choice from any location or device and will continue to be transparent about the handling of internet traffic, customers\u2019 privacy and the overall internet experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2054\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2054\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2054\" class=\"wp-image-2054 size-medium\" title=\"Net Neutrality Rules\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Best-Internet-Provider-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Internet Providers\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Best-Internet-Provider-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Best-Internet-Provider.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2054\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Light-Touch Regulatory Framework<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of their Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, FCC said that they are planning to return the bipartisan framework, which offered open and free internet for about two decades. FCC approved the proposal 2-1, with Commissioner Michael O\u2019Reilly and Chairman Ajit Pai approving the proposal and Commissioner Mignon Clyburn disagreeing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The notice from FCC put forward a proposal to reverse the 2015 decision of FCC to impose Title II utility style regulation on the different internet providers and return the light touch framework, which is under the Title I of the Communications Act. However, the vote does not overturn the net neutrality rules immediately.
