This came in a recent amicus to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They aligned forces said, \u201cAt first glance, amici\u2019s position might seem surprising four leading corporations are arguing in favor of restoring the FTC\u2019s authority to regulate their non-common carriage activities. On closer inspection, however, this position aligns with the companies\u2019 desire to reinstate a predictable, uniform, and technology-neutral regulatory framework that will best serve consumers and businesses alike.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The major internet providers who signed on to the brief include Verizon<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Cox Communications<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, Comcast Corporation<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>, and Charter Communications<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. These telecom companies did not rag on AT&amp;T<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> but they discussed the impacts such a decision will have on the wider regulatory landscape. They added, \u201cAmici do not doubt AT&amp;T\u2019s commitment to the protection of its consumers, and they take no position on the merits of the FTC\u2019s underlying allegations that AT&amp;T\u2019s practices were unfair or deceptive. But the important regulatory goals that are at stake in this case cannot be achieved if the en banc Court accepts the panel\u2019s interpretation.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2177\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2177\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2177\" class=\"wp-image-2177 size-medium\" title=\"Regulatory Gaps\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Best-Cable-Deals-2-e1486194584558-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"Best Internet\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Best-Cable-Deals-2-e1486194584558-300x198.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Best-Cable-Deals-2-e1486194584558.jpg 635w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2177\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Enforce Consumer Protection Laws<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit had earlier agreed for a full court review of their three-judge panel decision, which left the authority of the Federal Trade Commission for overseeing the edge provider&#8217;s protections of privacy in certain scenarios very much in doubt. We will be able to get more details about the full court review in a week or two.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the amicus brief, Charter<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> et al. said, \u201cThis result would leave significant \u201cregulatory gaps\u201d that other federal, state, or local legislative and regulatory bodies almost certainly would seek to fill. But it is crucial to amici and to their customers that the regulatory bodies with greatest expertise in the relevant subject areas continue to have the authority to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/att-unveils-new-robocall-blocking-service\/\">enforce consumer protection laws<\/a>. It is equally important that these laws be enforced consistently and uniformly across the American economy.
