Reports indicate that more than hundreds of CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> customers also complained that the provider asked them to pay higher rates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Swanson said that she is planning to ask a judge to impose civil penalties against the provider and ask the company to alter their sales practice. She also added that the telecom giant should pay compensation to subscribers who were misled about their purchases.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Swanson said, \u201cI want [CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>] to knock it off. It is not OK for a company to quote one price and then charge another for something as basic as <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/century-cable\">cable tv<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #333399;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/century-internet\">internet service<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. We want an injunction so the company stops doing this to other people, and hopefully fixes the problem for these people as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The lawsuit against CenturyLink<strong><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong> that was filed in Anoka County District Court accuses the telecom company of in deceptive trade practices and committing consumer fraud. In addition to that, the lawsuit also cites 37 specific cases, where customers were overbilled by the company and were denied the chance to reduce the overcharges even when they had the originally promised offer from CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> in writing.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2148\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2148\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2148\" class=\"wp-image-2148 size-medium\" title=\"Deceptive Trade Practices \" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cox-Internet-4-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Cheap Internet\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cox-Internet-4-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cox-Internet-4.jpg 602w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2148\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Fraudulently Billed Subscribers <\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a recent statement, CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> spokesman Mark Molzen said that his office will show full cooperation to the ongoing investigation and he has also \u201cprovided all information requested.\u201d Molzen added, \u201cWe are disappointed that the Attorney General has chosen a news conference to communicate her concerns instead of contacting CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> directly. We take these allegations seriously and will review and respond in due course.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Swanson stated that the increasing number of complaints about CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> has made this case one of her top priorities. She said, \u201cThis one is top of the pile in terms of the concerns we have about the nature of their conduct and what we\u2019re hearing from people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, the lawsuit filed by Swanson is not the only thing CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> is concerned about, as several class action lawsuits were filed against the company recently in many western states including Idaho, Oregon, Colorado, and California.
