This has moved the deal a step forward to finalize the acquisition. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/different-plans-offered-by-centurylink-internet-services\/\">CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> offers one of the best internet services<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the country and this approval from the FCC will help it secure this $24 billion deal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">John F. Jones, CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Senior Vice President for Public Policy and Government Relations said, \u201cThe FCC&#8217;s approval of CenturyLink\u2019s acquisition of Level 3 is great news and means we now have all the regulatory approvals we need to close the transaction. We anticipate closing the transaction effective Nov. 1, 2017.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Recently, the Justice Department prompted CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> to deprive Level 3 networks operating in Tucson, Albuquerque, and Boise, as a measure in driving the local market competition. Besides, the Telco will also require providing for a period of about 25 years dark fiber networks across 30 of the intercity routes that pass through nearly 20 states. The officials in the Justice Department observed that the lack of such provisions would result in a \u201creduction in competition [that] likely would have led to higher prices, lower quality, and reduced access for consumers.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2133\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2133\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2133\" class=\"wp-image-2133 size-medium\" title=\"FCC Approval \" src=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cable-TV-Providers-1-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Fastest Internet Provider\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cable-TV-Providers-1-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cable-TV-Providers-1.jpg 596w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2133\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em><strong>Merger Review Standards<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> has announced the intentions of its merger in the previous year. It has declared that acquiring Level 3 Communications offers it an additional 200,000 miles of fiber. Meanwhile, the Telco manages an existing 250,000-route mile fiber network in the country. CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> also provides various other services such as cloud and managed hosting services for businesses. The approval for the Level 3 acquisition has earned approval from a majority of the Republicans in the FCC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, Mignon Clyburn a prominent Democrat has held back his vote. According to Clyburn\u2019s office, the new FCC approval to CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> \u201cradically alters the commission\u2019s long-standing merger review standards.\u201d Still, both <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetripleplay.net\/blog\/centurylink-inc-is-looking-for-the-next-multibillion-dollar-merger\/\">CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and Level 3<\/a><\/strong><\/span> consider that the approval of this merger by the FCC will open up competition with other rival providers like AT&amp;T<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> and Verizon Communications<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, CenturyLink<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> has a subscriber base of approximately six million internet customers, making it one of the fastest internet provider in the country. A major part of its revenue is generated by trading many of its network services to businesses.
