AT&T® Brings Internet to Customers in Rural Parts of Dorchester County

AT&T® Internet Service

Accessing social media platforms, looking up the latest news, and using internet for studying purposes has been a pipe dream for residents in several rural parts of Dorchester County for a very long time. However, this pipe dream has now become a reality to these customers thanks to the efforts made by the telecom giant, AT&T®.

In a recent statement, the officials from one of the best internet service providers in the country, AT&T® confirmed that they have expanded their high-speed internet service to the rural areas of the county. The regional director of external affairs for AT&T® South Carolina, Jack Mitchell said, “People who weren’t able to can now do all that kind of stuff.”

The officials from the telecom company also stated that their latest announcement brings comfort to over 2,000 residents who are currently living in and around St. George town. AT&T® has also installed a Wi-Fi transmitter on their tower in the town in order to offer a highly reliable and fast internet service to the residents.

High-Speed Internet Service

The authorities from AT&T® showed off the new tower and talked about how the latest service will work. Mitchell said that the newly installed Wi-Fi transmitter allows the telecom giant to expand their internet service to the residents in the underserved parts of the county. He also added that the new transmitter is capable of emitting wireless signal up to a radius of five miles.

In addition to that, the new service also ensures a minimum internet speed of 10 Megabytes per seconds to customers in rural parts of the area. However, it is significant to note that some internet customers in the region might receive an internet speed of 25 or 30 Megabytes per second as per the network officials. Mitchell said, “This is for folks in the rural community where there is no infrastructure.”

State Sen. John Matthews who was present with the Mayor of St. George, Anne Johnston during the AT&T® announcement, said, “Technology is a great divider in the 21st century. It’s going to determine whether your community is economically successful or whether it’s a (failure) so bringing this broadband and technology to our community should help us grow our economy. People who want to move in a rural community and still do their business can now do (it) because you can work if you’ve got access to technology you can work from anywhere.”
