Comcast® Says Out Of Home Viewing Has Increased

Live TV Programming

Comcast Corporation® recently said that their Xfinity Stream® platform, which is the updated version of their video app unifying on demand and live TV programming that the users could access at home or on the go, is reaping great benefits. Comcast® launched the new app on Feb. 28 and the app can be used in web browsers, Android, and iOS phones and tablets. The Xfinity Stream® service offers an X1 like experience to the users and is the successor of the Xfinity TV app.

Subscribers can now watch on demand and live TV content on any compatible device at home or on the go. Apart from that, X1 Cloud DVR users will also be able to download or stream recordings on Cloud DVR to the device to watch from anywhere.

The Xfinity Stream® app has a content rights engine that is built into it. The engine lets the users know automatically which of the IP delivered TV channels will be available when they are out of the house or when connected to the network at home. This unification of the available services has made more and more subscribers to opt out of home viewing as per the blog post from Kim Aurand, who is the senior product manager for Xfinity TV, web, and mobile apps at Comcast®.

“Previously, to access a live channel out of home, customers would need to manually filter the guide to ‘available out of home’,” she explained. “While users of the app can still do this, we also now automatically pivot to an equivalent out-of-home channel when available (labeled ‘TV Go’ in the app). This simple improvement has paid dividends – since launching this enhancement a few months ago, we’ve seen a 27 percent increase in viewing of out-of-home content and increased our app store rating to 4 stars.”

The Xfinity Stream® app on the Apple store now has a 4 star rating and the version of the app in Google Play store has a rating just above 3 stars. At present, Xfinity Stream® offers two hundred plus live channels that is for out of home viewing. It is also reported that Xfinity Stream® will act as a foundation for an upcoming service from Comcast® called Xfinity Instant TV. It is reported that initially, the service will aim those broadband users who do not subscribe to the pay TV services from Comcast®.
