The internet and cable service provider rolled out their DOCSIS 3.1 services in Miami, Nashville, Chicago, and Atlanta last year. The telecom giant also stated that they would have the CableLabs’ next-generation network standard in approximately 15 cities of United States by early 2017.
The telecom company has already scheduled deployments for Seattle, Salt Lake City, San Jose, San Francisco, Knoxville, Indianapolis, Denver, Florida, Jacksonville, Oregon, Portland, Kansas, and Kansas City. Reports indicate that Chattanooga and Huntsville were not on the initial list of the company. However, both of them are municipalities, which have sufficient access to the gigabit services of the best internet service.
Google Fiber and AT&T have been offering gigabit options to the residents of Huntsville. On the other hand, the Chattanooga Electric Power Board (EPB) has been offering 10 Gbps fiber connections to the customers of Chattanooga. The regional senior VP at Comcast, Doug Guthrie said, “Over the last two years in Chattanooga, Comcast has deployed an advanced 10-gigabit network to businesses, launched a 2-gigabit residential internet service, and added to our over 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the marketplace. Today’s announcement delivers a 1-gigabit Internet service to Chattanooga’s residential and business community using some of the latest, most advanced technology available.”
