One of the most popular internet service providers in the country, Comcast Corporation, is all set to expand their advance network offering in Decatur and that includes the deployment of additional fiber optic cable. The focus of this expansion is to give customers a wider access to the high-speed internet service offered by the provider.
Comcast believes that this expansion will attract more businesses to their offerings. Reports indicate that the expansion of Comcast Corporation will cover numerous locations ranging from the Decatur Civic Center to Richland Community College. In addition to that, the internet service provider is also planning to expand their internet service in certain parts of the Archer Daniels Midland Co. intermodal rail facility, which is a part of the Midwest Inland Port.
The regional senior vice president of Comcast Corporation, John Crowley said that, “These investments are another way Comcast continues to fuel Decatur’s economy. We intend to keep bringing the best technologies and services here.” Commenting on that, the economic development officer of the city, Patrick Hoban said, “The continued addition of fiber in Decatur will help businesses here compete and grow and will help us attract new ones whose business models depend on advanced internet and telecommunications technologies.”
Comcast has been one of the major internet service providers in Decatur since the year 2008 and they have been offering a maximum internet speed of 100 Gbps to their subscribers. In addition to that, the telecom company is also offering Voice, Ethernet, and other value added cloud services.
“In today’s economy, having an environment with easy access to high-speed broadband represents a critical tool for community development and for improving the quality of life for both current and future residents, which is an important goal for all of us,” Hoban added.
Comcast Corporation has about 750 miles of network in the country and 100 miles of this fiber network are in Decatur. The telecom provider has also established approximately 12,000 Xfinity WiFi hotspots to connect visitors and residents to the internet on the go.
Reports from several sources indicate that this latest initiative from Comcast will draw in more businesses and other customers to their offerings. Furthermore, it will also bring numerous benefits to many businesses, as they will have access to a high-speed internet connection.
