Charter Communications is planning to launch a new low-income broadband service, called Spectrum Internet Assist. This internet service from Charter will offer a downstream internet speed of 30 Mbps and an upstream internet speed of 4 Mbps at just $14.99 a month.
This offering from Charter Communications is comparatively a lot much faster than all other low-income broadband offerings. In addition to that, it is considerably low-priced than a typical broadband internet service, which offers the same internet speed.
Families with students, who participate in the National School Lunch Program, as well as senior individuals (minimum age of 65) would be eligible for subscribing to the Spectrum Internet Assist program. In addition that, senior recipients of Supplemental Security Income program benefits can also subscribe to this high-speed internet service.
Reports say that customers will not have to be a Bright House Network, Time Warner Cable, or Charter broadband subscriber in order to receive this latest offering from Charter. However, Charter has stated that the credit ratings of the customers will not be considered by the company, but they will have to settle all the existing unpaid balances within 60 days of signing up, if they wish to subscribe to Spectrum Internet Assist.
Low-Income Broadband Service
Speaking on the new low-income broadband offering from Charter, Charter Chairman and CEO, Tom Rutledge said, “Spectrum Internet Assist is an important next step in providing true high-speed connections to those who would otherwise continue to face digital inequality in this country. It’s important for cable and broadband providers like us to play a role in bridging the digital divide so that everyone has access to the information and tools they need to succeed in today’s economy.”
He also added that their latest offering, Spectrum Internet Assist, is already available to their customers in Charter’s legacy service area. In addition to that, the company has also promised that this service will be made available in the entire service territory of Charter by mid-2017.
Reports say that Charter has also allowed the eligible customers to bundle their home phone or cable service with Spectrum Internet Assist. This will enable subscribers to enjoy numerous services at an even cheaper price. The basic price eligible subscribers have to pay for triple play bundle of home phone, internet, and cable service is just $74.97.
