Genie HD DVR

DirecTV®, the key satellite service and best internet provider in the country, has now incorporated the Electronic Sell Through (EST) option into its features. With this option, the satellite TV customers can buy movies and TV titles including the new releases, displayed on their rental windows through their internet connected Genie HD DVR.

DirecTV® joins other Multichannel Video Programming Distributors (MVPD’s) like Comcast® and Verizon® with this move. However, the customers are entitled to access the purchased titles only if they continue receiving the services from DirecTV®.

The FAQ listed on the DirecTV® website states that, “You will not be able to access your purchased movies if your account is not active, even if you return as a DirecTV customer at a later date. You must maintain your DirecTV account to view your purchased content.” The purchases are also nontransferable and will be unavailable for customers who have switched to other services of the company like DirecTV Now®, the new OTT streaming service from AT&T®.

With other best TV and internet providers like Comcast®, the customers can access their purchased content through the company’s recently re-launched Xfinity® web portal. It is also available via the Xfinity Mobile® apps even after the services are disconnected. Similar to this, the telecom major Verizon® has also initiated a policy that requires the customers to keep up the Fios® account user ID and password, for accessing and viewing the purchased content.

Officials from DirecTV® said, “In the coming weeks, DirecTV customers will be able to purchase and download their favorite movies to watch on the go or online on laptops, tablets, and smartphones.” This purchase movies and shows are available for the DirecTV® customers for watching in their homes. At present, customers are limited to purchasing only individual episodes of television shows and not the entire seasons.
