New Multi Stream Device

Sling Media, a subsidiary of Dish Network Corporation has announced its latest multi-stream device, the SlingStudio. This multicast production device offers a convenient way to record and live stream video feeds from multiple sources to online platforms like Facebook Live and YouTube. Particularly focused on heavy streaming users, Sling Studio is beneficial for businesses that rely more on live streaming because of its multiple uses in the area of video conferencing and other means of communication. Dish Network, one of the major internet providers in the country offer the service at a much lower cost than many other alternatives.

Sling Studio allows regular users to create professional and broadcast-quality online video using advanced multi-camera setups. This includes the capability for wirelessly connecting up to ten professional cameras and smartphones. It provides the users with the capability to monitor feeds from all the connected cameras and devices accurately. In addition, the device also lets users to edit about four of the live feeds simultaneously, for live streaming of the content or to capture it digitally for help in the postproduction work.

The Dish Network subsidiary is planning to expand some of its best internet service in the region by selling Sling Studio streaming device for a base price of $999. Vivek Khemka CTO of Dish said, “Existing multi-camera video platforms run upwards of $5,000 at a market entry point. Where Facebook and YouTube have democratized live streaming, SlingStudio is democratizing the gear that directors need to make those streams great.”

The synchronizing of the live feeds can be done automatically with a free iPad Console app. This allows the user to carry out some basic tasks like camera switching together with the option to edit and add some simple effects like text overlays. Moreover, it provides the ability to mix audio and perform real time editing of the live streams. The captured video can be saved in different video editing software for the purpose of postproduction.

Available with the device is a CameraLink adapter priced at $349 for linking professional cameras. The adapter enables automatic transcoding of the video in real time for matching it with the different source feeds. The HDMI input allows users to connect any video source to the device. SlingStudio is the first hardware announced by Dish Network after acquiring the video business of its sister company EchoStar Corp.
