Internet TV

Cable Vs Streaming

Internet streaming has been growing in popularity in the past decade or so. Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime have brought in the kind of competition that longtime cable customers are welcoming at this point. Internet TV is becoming a good alternate to traditional cable, seeing as the latter has had subscriber numbers drop over the past few years.

Telecom research firm Moffett Nathanson show estimates of at least a 3 percent drop every quarter since the second of 2014. At the same time, internet streaming has expanded continuously. CBS and HBO, for instance, have started streaming services; meanwhile, DirecTV started giving users the option to watch NFL Sunday Ticket service over the internet.

What this means for the subscribers, is more options. There is no longer the need to adjust to the pricey, generic cable package. Viewers can now choose from a growing roster of services, and cable companies will improve their offerings to stay afloat in the market. This means new apps, and cloud-based DVR programming. According to telecom expert Jeff Kagan, “The user can watch whatever they want, whenever they want on whatever device they want.”

What You Get With Internet TV Streaming

  • More flexibility: most cable companies don’t offer the same convenience to sign up the way streaming services do. Hulu Plus and Netflix each let you sign up for less than 10 dollars a month, where you can browse their offerings, and back out if you are not interested.
  • Better viewing experience: On Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime Instant Video, there is the option to subscribe to your favorite shows. So you would know when new shows were available, and this would show up right on your customized sign in page. On Netflix, it works a little differently, with the subscriber getting recommendations based on their previous watch list.

  • No viewing without internet: One area where satellite cable providers fall short is that bad weather can mess sup your plans to watch TV. Power outages are the worst when you use the internet for all your entertainment.

Cable Gives You

  • More shows: Sometimes you find the best shows when you are not even looking for one. This is one of the perks of paying so much for a cable service. So you would think until it is time to pay.
  • Sports: ESPN and most other major sports networks are part of The package you get in basic cable. If you worship The NFL, MLB, and NBA, and need to watch games in real time, cable is the best choice.
