Smart Cell Technology

AT&T® has commended the decision by Governor Mark Dayton for signing a latest measure into the law for assisting the streamlining and standardizing of rules that will hasten the deployment of smart cell technology. This will significantly enable the development and installation of next generation high-speed wireless services in Minnesota.

The 5G network, which is the latest technological innovation in the wireless industry, requires the use of small cell technology for its development. The signing of the new law will assist AT&T® in hastening the setting up of small cells in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

Paul Weirtz, President of AT&T® Minnesota said, “Thanks to Governor Dayton signing legislation that encourages companies to invest more in wireless infrastructure, AT&T® is accelerating its wireless build out plans in Minnesota with tens of millions of dollars dedicated to mobile network enhancements in the state.”

“This investment will include next-generation upgrades that will help pave the path to 5G mobile services in the years ahead,” Weirtz added. “This legislation would not have been possible without the strong support and hard work of legislators like Representative Marion O’Neill and Senator David Osmek.”

AT&T®, the fastest internet provider in the country, intends to enhance the networks currently operating in getting ready for the “Big Game” scheduled for February 2018. The plans for this include an overall enhancement of the network by extension of the existing macro sites. Moreover, the company is also presenting numerous applications for obtaining the necessary city permits to deploy the small cells in the Twin Cities.

Small boxes are mini antennas that can be fixed onto existing network structures such as streetlights, signal lights and buildings. This will aid AT&T® to focus on areas that requires extra capacity. The deployment if such small cells will significantly boost the wireless internet speeds and offers a targeted network capacity for streaming applications alongside providing the best internet packages.

This new law streamlines the process for wireless investment, helping to bring better wireless service to residents and businesses and positioning Minnesota to benefit from the 5G economy.”

During 2014 to 2016, AT&T® has made a considerable investment in the Minnesota region that amounts to about $350 million. Through these investments, the company has made upgrades into its wireless network infrastructure for offering performance, speed and coverage to both the residential and business customers.
