DOJ Loses Appeal Seeking to Block Telco Merger

Cable TV Alternatives

High Speed Internet

The US Department of Justice has lost its appeal to block the AT&T® and Time Warner® merger (again). A panel of three judges in the United States Court of Appeals rejected their claim to challenge the Telco merger, which, as per the DOJ, has started to “reshape” the media industry. The lawyers even tried to argue that the antitrust laws applied to allow the merger was incorrect and that the merger would negatively affect the competition in the telecommunications market and even hurt end users.

AT&T®, on the other hand, said that their acquisition of Time Warner® would not affect the competition, but instead bring more benefits for customers. They even said that the merger could lower customer bills as well, and offer more content to those who watch TV programming on mobile devices.

“The government’s objections that the District Court misunderstood and misapplied economic principles and clearly erred in rejecting the quantitative model are unpersuasive,” Judge Judith W. Rogers said. Consequently, the DOJ has lost for the second time now, and reports say that the Justice Department is not planning on another appeal.

“The merger of these innovative companies has already yielded significant consumer benefits, and it will continue to do so for years to come,” AT&T’s general counsel, David McAtee, said. “While we respect the important role that the U.S. Department of Justice plays in the merger review process, we trust that today’s unanimous decision from the D.C. Circuit will end this litigation.”

This is a great news for AT&T®, who can now move ahead with their plans they have for WarnerMedia. Representatives from the company said that they would soon launch a few online products for their subscribers, with HBO® anchoring one of the services that would include movies and TV shows from Warner Bros. The Telco said that HBO® would still be an independent stand-alone service.

This is a good news for subscribers too, as the blockbuster hits like Wonder Woman and Harry Potter movies along with TV shows like Game of Thrones and Friends would now be accessible to them On Demand. Reports say that AT&T® is also planning to license some of the programming to other streaming services, which is a smart strategy to reach to more viewers. Yet at the same time, this strategy could backfire for their own streaming service, DIRECTV NOW®, because users would be able to access their content on other platforms.

How to Catch the Best Cable Deals in the Market

TV Providers

Online Streaming Services

The launch of online streaming services such as DIRECTV NOW®, Hulu, and Netflix has encouraged several customers to ditch their traditional TV service and enter into a partnership with these streaming service providers. It is true that subscribing to a streaming service will enable you to catch your favorite TV shows, blockbuster movies, sports events, and more. However, the catch is that you will need access to a high-speed internet connection to enjoy a fine streaming experience. Customers who do not enjoy such a luxury should continue to stick with the best satellite and cable TV providers in their area.

Even though they have access to a high-speed internet connection, several customers in the country prefer to subscribe to cable TV providers due to the attractive packages and deals offered by the providers. It is significant to note that most of the cable and satellite TV providers in the country do offer a number of hidden perks and other attractive deals to new TV customers.

Reports from several reliable sources indicate that the immense popularity of streaming services has affected traditional TV services. This is because some of the leading TV providers in the United States have lost thousands of customers. Due to this, most of the TV service providers in the country are trying to lure in more customers towards their offerings by offering the best cable deals in the market.

How to Choose the Best Cable TV Provider

Selecting a cable TV service provider used to be a simple task until a few years ago but that is not the case anymore. This is because there are plenty of cable TV providers out there in the market and most of them offer a wide variety of plans and packages to customers. So, customers who wish to catch the best cable deals in the market will have to thoroughly compare all the plans offered by the TV providers who are operating in their area. In addition to that, they must definitely consider these following factors too, as it will help them to make an informed buying decision.

Availability

The first and most important thing you need to do is to do your research and find out the best cable TV service providers who are offering their services in your region. In most parts of the country, two or more cable TV options are available to customers. If that is the case, then make sure to get in touch with respective companies to learn more about their plans, packages, policies, and more. You should also try to reach out to the existing subscribers of the TV providers because it will help you to know whether they offer reliable and good quality service to customers or not.

Another important thing you need to note is that regional and local TV service providers like Cincinnati Bell and WOW offer impressive service at cheap and affordable prices. However, the issue is that the service offered by these providers is available only in 10 states of the country. If any of these providers are operating in your area, then you should consider subscribing to their service, as it will help you capture the best cable deals in the market.

Plans and Pricing

It is significant to note that the number of channels, pricing patterns, bundling options, and contract agreements of one TV service provider will significantly vary when compared to another. So, you should initially decide what kind of TV channels you need access to and how many channels do you really need. In addition to that, you must ensure that the channels that you want are included in the chosen package before making a final decision.

A recent survey conducted by experts in the field of telecommunications revealed that the most customers usually watch 20-30 channels. In fact, even the customers who have subscribed to a TV plan with 250 plus channels just watch only twenty to thirty of these channels. So, check whether the channels you want are included in the basic package. If not, get in touch with your preferred TV service provider and ask him whether you will be able to add additional channels to the basic package. However, you could also look for a new plan with more channels. Either way, you must ensure that you and your family will be able to catch the programs from your favorite TV channels.

Customer Service

Cheap Cable And Internet Packages

Choosing Best Providers

Customer service is another important factor that you will need to consider before subscribing to a certain TV service provider. If you are experiencing regular outages and other related issues with your existing TV service, then you surely need to switch to a new TV provider who offers reliable service and the best cable deals in the market. If you have already found a new TV provider, then you need to ask whether you will experience any sort of issues with the service or not. Even if you experience any such issues, technicians from your TV service provider must be there to help you at all time. So, go online and check the reviews of your preferred TV provider, as it will help you to determine whether they offer high quality and reliable service.

In addition to that, you should also get in touch with the customer service representatives of the TV service provider and ask them whether you are eligible for any deals or promotional offers. This will help you to save hundreds of dollars and acquire the best cable TV deals in the market with utmost ease.

Some of the cable TV providers in the country might ask you to sign a two or three-year agreement with them. If you are not ready to enter into a long-term partnership with any cable TV providers, then it is best to look for a TV provider who does not ask you to sign long-term agreements. The issue with long-term agreements is that customers who cancel the service before the contract period ends might be forced to pay a hidden fee.

Top Cable TV Providers in the United States

Customers who are new to the world of cable TV providers and plans will find it very hard to identify the best TV provider who meets all their needs. Three of the leading cable TV service providers who offer their services in most parts of the country are Frontier Communications®, Comcast XFINITY®, and Cox Communications®. So, if any of these TV providers are operating in your area, then you should definitely consider choosing them. However, if all three TV providers are active in your area, then you will need to compare their plans and pricing pattern to catch the best cable deals in the market.

Comcast XFINITY®

Most of the leading cable TV providers in the country will offer just a single non-bundled option or they provide bundled options where you can bundle your internet and TV service under a single bill. This is what makes XFINITY® different from other TV service providers. Customers who are signing up for the XFINITY® TV service can choose any one of their five TV packages without subscribing to the internet.

Another interesting thing to note is that almost all TV packages of XFINITY® give you access to a wide variety of popular channels. In fact, you will be able to watch the coverage of approximately 200 plus channels by choosing XFINITY® over other TV service providers. For instance, the starter plan of the provider contains 40 percent of most of the popular channels in the country including Hallmark Channel and ESPN. However, specialty sports channels and premium networks like MLB Network and Starz will not be included with the basic plan.

The cable TV service offered by Comcast XFINITY® is currently available in 39 states and around 8,444 zip codes, which implies that Comcast® is one of the widely available cable TV providers in the United States. Even though this leading cable TV provider earned a bad reputation for their unreliable customer service a few years ago, they have been put in extra efforts to dramatically improve their customer service to please subscribers.

Cox Communications®

If you are a person who prefers to troubleshoot and install modems and other devices on your own, then Cox® should be on top of your list. This is because this cable TV provider has an exceptional online resource library with how-to-do video guides that enable customers to set-up and troubleshoot their services with ease. If you encounter any issues with Cox® TV service, then all you need to do is to choose the issue in the search tool, which will automatically redirect you to the accurate instructional manual.

TV Providers

High Speed Internet

The best TV plan offered by Cox Communications® is the Contour TV plan. Customers who choose this TV plan will be able to gain access to more than 140 popular channels, including some of the favorite channels of average TV watchers. However, specialty sports and premium channels will not be included in the Contour TV plan. Cox® customers could also opt for the Contour Flex or starter plan to watch the programs in The CW, ABC, and PBS.

In addition, customers who are opting for the cable TV service of Cox® will be able to choose supplement TV packages and add their favorite sports, movie, or other genre-specific channels. You will only have to pay an additional amount of 10 dollars a month to add a new channel to your existing Cox® TV plan. Finally, Cox® also allows you to self-install the service, which means that you will be able to save hundreds of dollars on installation fees.

Frontier Communications®

If Frontier Communications® is offering their services near you, then you do enjoy the luxury of selecting either Vantage TV or FiOS TV. The most popular option among the two is certainly FiOS TV. The FiOS TV service of Frontier® uses fiber optic cables instead of traditional methods. Customers who bundle the internet and FiOS TV service of Frontier Communications® will be able to enjoy access to a high-speed internet connection and watch more than 100 popular channels.

Several users have recently started to subscribe to the FiOS TV service of Frontier® due to tempting promotional deals and offers the telecom company is offering. For instance, new subscribers of Frontier® will receive a router for free and the installation of the equipment will also be free. In addition to that, customers might also get access to Amazon Prime for 12 months after signing up for FIOS TV.

Customers who are on a tight budget and the ones who wish to bundle their TV service with a high-speed internet connection should definitely choose Frontier Communications® over Cox Communications® and Comcast XFINITY®. This will enable you to get access to the best cable deals in the market. However, the major downfall of Frontier® is that their customer service is just average.

Conclusion

If you are planning to choose cable TV service over satellite, then you need to realize the fact that cable TV providers are not currently operating in all parts of the country. As a result, most customers will have one or fewer than three cable TV options because installing the necessary infrastructure of cable TV service is quite costly and requires time. Still, cable TV providers are trying to expand their TV service to remaining parts of the country, which means that cable TV service will be available in more states in a short span of time.

Finally, customers who are shopping for cable TV services should also note that most of the leading telecom companies in the United States encourage customers to bundle either two or three of their telecommunication services. It is true that bundling TV and internet or TV, internet, and home phone services will help you to save money and gain access to a number of features. However, if you are a person who does not rely on home phone or internet services, then bundling might not be a good choice for you.

An Overview of Cable TV and the Best Services Offered

Best Cable Providers

Cable TV Services

The cable system has emerged phenomenally in the United States in the recent years, and now, cable TV providers serve approximately 60 million homes in the nation. In the past, antennas and amplifiers were used to transfer the signals to television sets and a line of sight connection was required. Hence, people living in the remote areas were not able to watch their favorite TV programming. Yet things have changed now, and almost every resident in the country has access to the best cable deals.

In case of remote areas, a community antenna will be used in order to provide cable TV services, and the same method is used all over the country in order to offer a wide variety of programming and TV channels to individual homes. In the process, a coaxial cable is used in order to transport the signals to a consumer’s hub, which they can easily plug it to their television. In case of poor signal reception, cable TV providers may install amplifiers at certain distances in order to boost up the signal and to offer a great TV watching experience to their consumers.

The Evolution of Cable TV

A cable television broadcasts two types of signals: analog and digital. Traditionally, a cable TV service used analog signal to deliver video content, and it often ran into interferences and noises. This in turn affected the video and audio quality of the programming. On the other hand, digital TV is a newer approach to cable television and delivers high-quality content from the providers’ point to the consumers’ end. As the name indicates, digitally encoded signals are fed into a television set in this case so as to give an incomparable viewing experience to a customer.

As the quality was at stake, people started opting for streaming services over traditional cable TV, which lead to a growing trend of “cord cutting” in the US. Interestingly, even though digital cable TV connection fills the gap between quality and content delivery, some telecommunication companies are urging their consumers to cut the cords and adopt the streaming services these days. This is because most of the leading cable providers also offer high-speed internet access to their customers these days, which facilitates seamless video content streaming. However, according to a recent study, nearly 45% of the residents in the United States still prefer a traditional cable TV connection to the streaming services. This is mainly because of the cable TV plans and best cable deals they can get, which gives access to hundreds of channels in a much affordable pricing.

In the streaming services, the number of channels that you can watch is limited when compared to wired cable TV services. Additionally, some of the streaming services will not allow you to watch the contents that are aired on local channels. Another important thing that cord cutters need to notice is that a reliable and strong internet connection is required for watching programs using a streaming service. Hence, it is better to rely on cable TV service if you do not have access to a high-speed internet connection.

Grabbing the Best Cable Deals

It can be seen that many consumers usually complain about the pricing of their cable TV packages being very high. This is mainly because of their lack of knowledge about the best cable deals that different cable TV providers offer. In order to get the best out of it, compare different TV plans that are offered by the cable providers in your area and choose one that works best for you as well as your family. This way, you can avail the cheapest and best cable deals with ease. Note that the increasing number of cord cutters has also motivated many of the cable TV providers to offer exciting offers and promotional deals to both their existing and new subscribers.

In fact, the enormous possibilities in the market have paved way for many cable TV providers to come up and offer hundreds of channels to millions of subscribers in the US for reasonable prices. Below are some of the best cable providers you can choose today. Note that the pricing given below for various packages are not fixed and it may change with time or other specifics.

Comcast XFINITY®

Cable TV Providers

Telecommunication Services

The XFINITY® cable TV service by the telecommunication giant Comcast® is one of the best in the market that you may count on. The cable company offers some of the best cable deals that anyone can hardly resist. One of the main advantages of choosing XFINITY® cable TV is the affordability; their cable services cost less than most of the other cable TV providers in the United States. For instance, consider the Digital Starter TV plan by XFINITY®, which offers 140+ channels for just $49.99 a month. This package is way too affordable when compared to other top cable providers. Additionally, the Digital Starter TV plan boasts that almost every channel included in the pack is listed in the top 25 cable TV networks. Some of those channels include Discovery, ESPN, TNT, AMC, USA, The CW, etc. So, you do not need to stress about missing any of the most popular channels or your favorite shows if you avail the cable services offered by XFINITY®.

Another advantage of availing the best cable deals offered by Comcast XFINITY® is the no-contract policy of the company. This is a great option for all the cable TV users out there, who are hesitant to make commitments. Anyhow, you will have to pay an additional cost of $10 in order to avail the no-contract service by XFINITY®. Other than that, the cable service provider also offers some of the best equipment to their subscribers. Consider the XFINITY® X1 DVR, for instance – it is one of the best choices that you may consider. The DVR is able to record about six shows in a go, which is really remarkable. Furthermore, it can also save High Definition recordings up to 100 hours. Some of the other cool features that the DVR entails include an X1 voice controlled remote, Netflix integration, etc.

Cox®

The best cable deals offered by Cox Communications® are highly remarkable. More than that, the way that they sell their services is somewhat different from others but extremely brilliant. At first, the cable TV provider used to sell a number of cable plans that include an apparently random set of channels. Now, they have become more attentive, and have trimmed down the number of cable plans offered to two, namely Flex Starter and Contour TV. Each of the TV plans comes with a set of customizable add-ons as well.

Cox® cable is the best bet for people who love to customize their channels, and thereby, enjoy more flexibility. In case of Contour TV plan, you can access more than 140 channels of almost every top-rated digital cable network. You can also avail some of the High Definition Contour TV plans and On-Demand entertainment services in the package. For instance, some of the additional services offered by the Contour TV plan include free DVR, voice-controlled remote, ability to record up to 1000 hours, etc. You can enjoy all these services at $64.99 per month. For a cheaper option, you may consider the Flex Starter plan. Here, you can watch 75+ channels for just $44.00 a month.

Even though you will have to sign a 2-year contract in order to avail the cable services of Cox®, the best cable deals offered by the company is worth it. Unlike other providers, Cox® will not increase the promotional pricing largely, and hence, its average price remains almost steady.

According to a recent study, the average increase in pricing of the services from the promotional period with Cox® is 27%. Similarly, the price hike that you may expect with the cable service provider over two years is reported to be an average of $101.37. Moreover, the hidden fees are comparatively low with Cox® apart from the Early Termination Fees, which you can see within the terms and condition clauses in your contract. In case you decided to terminate the cable service before the expiration period, the Early Termination Fees will be $240 minus $10 for every month that you used their service.

For people who are careless with their stuff, the Service Protection Plan offered by Cox® will be an ideal pick. The plan covers repairs and replacement charges for damaged wires, normal wear and tear, faulty fittings, and technician visit costs. This plan may cost you $84 annually, but it is sensible because you will have to pay about $60 for a technician visit or single service otherwise.

Charter Spectrum®

TV Providers

Compare Cable Plans

The telecommunication conglomerates Charter® and Time Warner Cable® jointly offer the Spectrum® TV service to millions of subscribers nationwide. The cable provider offers many best cable deals to its patrons and delivers one of the most excellent cable TV experiences in the US. One of the main plus points regarding Spectrum® cable is its no-contract policy. That is, you do not have to lock up yourselves in a contract in order to avail the services offered by Charter Spectrum®.

The best cable deals offered by Spectrum® cable range from $55.99 to $99.99 per month, and entail a number of channels according to the package. For a starter package, the number of channels that you may watch is up to 45 and you can watch about more than 200 channels for a better package. This type of cable service is suitable for the TV junkies who are commitment phobic and prefer to watch only a few premium channels that are included in their package. For instance, consider the popular shows such as Game of Thrones, Iron Chef, etc., that you may watch for two years without signing a contract. Another advantage of choosing Spectrum® cable is that it allows you to negotiate the pricing, and if you succeed, you can grab some of the best cable deals in the bargain.

The three most popular Spectrum® TV packages are Spectrum® TV Select, Spectrum® TV Silver, and Spectrum® TV Gold. It is $64.99 per month in order to avail the Spectrum® TV Select package that offers more than 125 channels. In case of the Spectrum® TV Silver package, there will be more than 175 channels in the pack, and you will have to pay a monthly cost of $84.99. For the Spectrum® TV Gold package, the monthly cost is $104.99 and it covers more than 200 channels.

In addition to this, you can also expect some surprises with the packages. For instance, in the Spectrum® TV Silver package, there could be 232 channels even though the number advertised is 175+. However, this depends upon the service area you are living in. Apart from this, you can also enjoy about 150 HD channels with Spectrum® for free of cost.

Choosing the Best Cable TV Provider

In the earlier days, it was quite easy to subscribe to a cable TV provider and it was a simple process as well. Things become totally different and complicated in the telecommunications market today, but for the betterment. Currently, most of the leading cable TV providers in the nation offer a plethora of different cable TV packages and deals. Yet it can be a little overwhelming for you to choose the right cable provider who offers the best cable deals to meet your requirements. In order to make the process easy, below are certain tips that you may consider.

Do Good Research

This is the first and most important step, which will help you to narrow down your search. For this, make a list of the cable TV providers in your area, and then do a detailed research on each provider. The best way to do this is by asking your neighbors and friends or family members in your locality about their cable TV service and about their viewing experience. Other than this, enquire about their customer service, the frequency of repairs or replacements, pricing and packages, etc.

You can also check the American Customer Satisfaction Report in order to figure out how different cable TV services fare. The survey rates some of the top-rated cable TV providers in the United States based on the customer satisfaction on their services. This is one of the easiest and effective ways to do your research and to choose the best cable deals for you.

Decide your Favorite Channels

According to a recent study, American citizens watch only about 20 channels out of the approx. 205 channels that are available to them. That is, they are paying for a number of channels that they are not even watching. In order to avoid this, make a list of the channels that you want to include in your cable TV package; you can also make a list of few other channels as a second list. After this, figure out which cable provider will offer the best deals on those channels. If you are lucky, there will be the channels in your second list as well in a suitable package. Still, think over the deals well before jumping into a conclusion, especially if it is contract-bound.

Consider Bundled Services

Bundling is one of the greatest options that you may consider in order to get the best cable deals. With this, you can access more services such as internet and telephone along with cable TV, and that too, at a price that is almost same as that of an individual service. In fact, experts say that you can save up to $1000 for two years if you bundle your TV service with internet. However, the place you live in and the type of package that you choose will affect this estimated price. Besides, not all bundles are equally effective for all. It depends on the internet speed that you need, the number of channels in your package, etc. Hence, it is recommended to compare the price of bundled packages properly with individual services and choose the best cable deals that work for you.

Self-Installing Comcast® Set-Top Box Can Save you Tech Visit Bill

Best Cable Deals

Cheapest Cable Provider

Comcast®, one of the biggest telecommunications companies in the United States and arguably the cheapest cable provider in many parts of the country, recently upgraded to a digitalized version. This means customers will now have to use a digital set-top box in order to watch their favorite channels on TV. Besides, Comcast® customers will have to pay an additional bill amount of $90 for a professional installation of the set-top box or the internet modem, if purchased individually, and not as part of a bundled package.

Both the new customers as well as the existing customers, who are using Comcast® services, must pay this tech visit bill. In fact, Comcast® even became a victim of highly suspicious tech press for this reason very recently. However, the Telco had already announced that the customers who require internet-only service could use their self-installation kit to install the set-top box or the internet modem, and avoid paying the tech visit bill of $90.

Responding to all suspicious news, Comcast® said, “For internet-only customers, we offer two options that do not require an in-home tech visit. A customer can use an Xfinity® self-install kit with a modem leased from Comcast®, or purchase his/her own modem.” They also said that customers could order the new modem online either by visiting an Xfinity® Store or just by making a call.

Cheapest Cable

High Speed Internet

The cable company, who often comes up with best cable deals in the US, further added, “We’ve worked hard to make the self-install experience simple and easy and it’s a growing and popular way for new customers to connect. When the installation is more complex, we schedule a technician visit. There are reasons that an in-home technician visit may be necessary. For example, if our engineers need to test signal strength and connections in a home that hasn’t been serviced in a number of years, or if the installation is more complicated for products like Gigabit internet or there are multiple services (like home security) being installed. For these situations, we offer competitively-priced options, which vary by market. It’s important to note that we can’t offer self-install kits for residences that we already serve with an existing customer.”

Note that the installation fee of $90 may vary depending on the market as well as whether or not the cable company has any active promotion schemes running. Furthermore, Comcast® also announced that the installation fee of $90 would be refunded if it turns out that there was no need for special installation.

Comcast® to Incorporate Tile App to Xfinity® X1 Voice Remote

Cable Providers

Xfinity® X1 Voice Remote

One of the best cable providers in the US, Comcast Corporation® is all set to include Tile app in their Xfinity® X1 voice remote. Tile is an American electronics company that mainly focuses on the production of key finder devices employing Bluetooth 4.0 technology. Here, a companion app for Tile will be usually installed in the devices such as smartphones, tablets, etc., and you can easily spot the location of those items using the Tile app, by means of the Bluetooth signal.

This merger of the best selling Bluetooth tracker and one of the top cable providers will make it easier for their customers to find almost anything that is lost including human beings. For instance, if you want to find your lost keys, all you have to do is to say “Xfinity Home®, where are my keys?” into the Xfinity® X1 voice remote. The location of your key will be displayed on your television.

Ideally, customers use this kind of applications for finding their misplaced wallets, keys, and other personal items, mostly within their home or workspace. However, you can also use video and voice control partnership for some serious purposes as well like spotting the favorite toy of your child, tracking movements of the rebellious teenager kids, securing a medical advice, and many more.

In a statement, the Senior Vice President of Comcast®, Sridhar Solur said, “This is a home automation partnership that helps solve real-life problems.” He further added, “Now, when a child arrives home from school, a parent can simply say, ‘Xfinity Home® where’s Sam’s backpack?’ into their voice remote and see that it was left at school. This is just one of the many peace-of-mind features we are making available to our customers on our evolving home automation platform.”

As for now, only the existing customers of Comcast® who have an X1 voice remote can make use of this option; these customers can simply add their Tile devices making use of the Xfinity Home® app. However, Tile and Comcast® have plans to expand this platform to all the internet customers of Xfinity® as well in the near future. Furthermore, the tracker works well with both Google Home® and Amazon Alexa®.

The CEO as well as the Co-Founder of the Tile, Mike Farley, said, “Tile is creating a world where everyone can find everything that matters. With the smart home being central to so many consumers’ lives, we are thrilled to be partnering with Comcast®. Together, we are bringing greater peace of mind to Xfinity customers in their home, providing a streamlined experience for them to quickly locate their things no matter where they are.”

CuriosityStream™ Incorporated into Comcast’s Lineup of SVOD Services

Best Internet Service

SVOD Services Lineup

Comcast® has made available the subscription VOD service, CuriosityStream™ into its set-top box VOD platform and MSOs Xfinity® Stream app and portal. Th service is added to its subscription VOD service that customers can access for an additional fee of $5.99 per month. This marks one of the best cable deals of the year, as it will enable Comcast® subscriber’s access to the wide range of documentaries and informative programming offered by CuriosityStream™. It is the first time that CuriosityStream™ is engaged with a distribution deal with an MVPD.

Started in 2015, CuriosityStream™ is a standalone OTT service that has eventually expanded into other notable distribution platforms like Amazon Channels and VRV. CuriosityStream™ has stated that it will roll out its service through the platform in HD resolution. The SVOD service, however, expressed optimism for the next year as they plan to offer their contents in 4K resolution currently available in their library. Besides, the SVOD service is not delivered through OTT to the subscriber within the distribution agreement with Comcast®.

Breakfast On Broad

Comcast Corporation launched the morning show, “Breakfast on Broad” approximately two years ago. The telecom giant launched this show by hoping that they will be able to duplicate the show across a number of Comcast SportsNet networks throughout the country. However, a recent statement by Comcast officials confirmed that they are cancelling the show.

The officials from Comcast also thanked the crew and viewers in their statement. “A special thank you to the entire crew from Breakfast on Broad for their dedication to trying new things, and providing viewers with entertaining and compelling content,” officials said.

The last episode of this show was aired on last Friday. Reports indicate that the morning show was pulled off from both Comcast Network and the CSN and it was replaced by the highlights of professional and college games. It is believed that the four hosts of the show, Barrett Brooks, Rob Ellis, Sarah Baicker, and Jillian Mele will remain with the CSN. Viewers will be able to catch these hosts on various other shows in the network, although the channel executives have not yet reveal their exact roles.

In a statement, CSN noted, “As the first local sports news program of its kind, Breakfast on Broad intended to better serve our viewers with more targeted sports programming across our platforms. After February 3rd, Breakfast on Broad will no longer be presented as a morning show. The hosts will remain with CSN Philadelphia, and our award-winning content will continue to engage Philly sports fans across multiple platforms.”

The telecom company had hired a 15 full-time employee crew team to staff the morning show, “Breakfast on Broad” during its launch. A major portion of these crewmembers will be assigned to new roles at both the networks. However, it is reported that a few of them will be relieved from their duties.

CSN Network had also recently cut their signature news program, which is titled as SportsNet Central, from 30 minutes to 15 minutes. CSN has also tried to make a few format changes in the last few months in order to attract more millennial viewers to their offerings. The network is also trying to put more emphasis on discussion and analysis among hosts.

Charter Files A Countersuit Against 21st Century Fox

Charter Communications Countersuit

Charter Communications recently filed a countersuit against 21st Century Fox alleging that the programmer violated the MFN (most favored nation) contract clauses, which concerns the licensing of Fox News.

The programmer, Fox sued Charter Communications a few months ago by claiming that the MSO misinterpreted its acquisition of Time Warner Cable. Fox also added that Charter is trying to improperly leverage the superior program licensing terms of this acquisition. Reports say that similar complaints were filed by Showtime and Univision against Charter.

Charter Communications noted that the MFN clauses in their agreement with Fox “provide that if Fox News offers another cable company more favorable terms, including lower rates than those that are provided for in the agreements at issue here, Fox News is then obligated to offer those same rates to TWC or Charter.”

The recent countersuit filed by Charter says, “Based on publicly available information, and depending upon which agreement is determined to govern the relationship between New Charter and Fox News, defendants believe that they are entitled to such an offer, and thus intend to file a counterclaim asserting a breach of the MFN clause.”

Last week, a statement was released by officials, who work for the Spanish-language broadcaster Univision, in which, they warned Charter customers about a potential blackout. “In July 2016, Univision had no choice but to initiate litigation against Charter Communications Inc. because Charter had taken the preposterous position that Time Warner Cable which Charter acquired in May 2016 was actually managing the newly-combined company and that Charter had no obligation to honor contracts that required it to negotiate new carriage deals with Univision,” the broadcaster said.

“This is a perfect example of how a behemoth cable company like Charter uses its excessive market power to harm content companies and the millions of subscribers who rely on Univision and its suite of networks for vital news and information in language,” Univision further added. “Despite Univision’s many attempts to resolve the dispute by offering good-faith settlement solutions, Charter has rejected all of Univision’s efforts.”

“Given this unfortunate impasse, Univision has no choice but to inform Charter’s customers that they may lose access to Univision’s networks and stations. Univision is committed to continuing to fight for the dignity and value of our community in the marketplace and the important role we play in providing a voice for Hispanic America during these uncertain times.”

Univision Stations May Go Dark On Charter

Charter Spectrum TV

Univision Stations

Reports indicate that the Univision stations in Los Angeles, New York, and many other popular markets might go dark on Charter Communications starting this month. This is because the Spanish-language giant is engaged in a dispute with the cable service provider over carriage terms.

The officials from Univision recently claimed that the second largest cable provider in the country has breached their contract agreements, which existed before Charter’s merger with Time Warner Cable. Univision added that Charter had to renegotiate their retransmission consent agreement after the merger, if they wanted to carry the stations of Univision.

Univision has already started to warn Charter subscribers about a potential blackout of their stations through on-air messages in the affected regions. On the other hand, Charter Communications stated that they have signed a long-term agreement with Univision, which allows them to carry their stations. Experts believe that Charter may even file a legal suit against Univision to stop them from pulling their signals.

On the contrary, a recent statement from Univision notes, “This is a perfect example of how a behemoth cable company like Charter uses its excessive market power to harm content companies and the millions of subscribers who rely on Univision and its suite of networks for vital news and information in language.”

Univision is committed to continuing to fight for the dignity and value of our community in the marketplace and the important role we play in providing a voice for Hispanic America during these uncertain times,” Univision officials added.

The dispute between the two parties is actually over which contract governs the deal of Charter Communications with Univision. Time Warner Cable was able to secure a more advantageous terms with Univision for retransmission consent because they were a much bigger cable service provider than Charter Communications.

Univision claims that Charter has breached the pre-merger contract between them as the company is currently paying Univision under Time Warner Cable. Fox News had also filed a similar lawsuit against Charter Communications on similar grounds a few weeks ago. If the dispute between Charter and Univision continues, then Charter subscribers will certainly loss their access to Univision stations.
