One of the leading internet providers in the country, Charter Communications recently announced that they are offering a new low-cost high-speed broadband service, titled as Spectrum Internet Assist, to their customers in the Birmingham market. Reports indicate that the latest offering from Charter will be delivering an incredible 30/4 Mbps broadband speeds at $14.99 a month for both eligible seniors and families. This is one of the best internet deals available to Charter customers currently.
In a recent statement, Birmingham Mayor William Bell said, “In order to complete school assignments at home, access healthcare online, communicate with friends and start a business, an internet connection is now a must-have. I applaud Charter Communications for making sure that all can afford to access the internet through their Spectrum Internet Assist program.”
As per Charter officials, the latest internet service will provide a low-cost broadband speed to their eligible customers and it will be approximately three times faster than the comparable service offered by their competitors. The officials from Charter also proudly announced that the speed offered by their latest broadband service would exceed the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC’s) definition of “high-speed”.
The Chairman and chief executive officer for Charter Communications, Tom Rutledge said, “Charter is excited to bring a whole new world of digital access and opportunity to low-income families and seniors. Spectrum Internet Assist is an important next step in providing true high-speed connections to those who would otherwise continue to face a digital inequality in this country.”
The eligibility requirements for the low-cost high-speed broadband internet service are as follows.
- Seniors who receive Supplemental Security Income program benefits and are of 65 years of age or above
- Families that contain students who take part in the in the National School Lunch Program

Potential enrollees will not be able to have a Charter/Time Warner Cable/Bright House Network broadband subscription within 30 days after signing up to the new service
- Eligible customers need not have to undergo a credit check, but they will have to clear any outstanding balances due with Bright House Networks, Time Warner Cable, or Charter Communications.
