Report from several reliable sources indicates that the telecom giant, AT&T is currently working with Maxwell Air Force Base. The main purpose behind the collaboration between the two parties is to bring the power of Internet of Things to the infrastructure and basic operations of the Base.
Reports claim that AT&T is integrating and installing network-connected sensors into the daily operations of Maxwell Air Force Base. They are also planning to develop a proof of concept demonstrations of fleet management, notifications, gate monitoring, smart perimeters, and much more with Maxwell. The officials from AT&T also added that they believe a highly connected and secure “Smart Base” is a lot more effective and efficient.
Colonel Don Lewis, 42d Mission Support Group Commander, Maxwell Air Force Base said, “Military bases function as small cities. And we face a lot of the same challenges municipalities face. We’re excited about opportunities to explore ways to enhance our operations, conserve limited resources, and stimulate new ideas to more creatively execute our missions through the power of IoT and network connected sensors.”
The representatives from the telecom company also added that AT&T is currently working with the representatives from Air University, command staff at Maxwell and other Air Force personnel to show the potential of IoT. Rocky Thurston, Air Force client executive vice president, AT&T Global Public Sector Solutions said, “Our work with Maxwell Air Force Base is just the tip of the iceberg of assisting the military. It’s an honor to team with Maxwell to improve its base operations and infrastructure through IoT.”
