Watching Live TV

A few years back, the only way to watch shows and movies was at home on your TV, not counting the cinemas, of course. If you had TV programming, the only place to watch it was on a television set, this being norm at the time. But these days it has become fairly common for people to watch TV on their computers, smartphones, and tablets, which serve as connected devices as long as they are on the same network as digital receiver.

Streaming services are not the only ones out there that let you watch programs on almost any connected device. Some cable and satellite providers offer attractive streaming capabilities along with their packages.

Dish

Dish Network is famous for the way it makes watching live and recorded TV easier, on smartphones, tablets, Kindles, computers, and laptops. All a subscriber needs for this is the Dish Anywhere™ app. If you have a connected Sling® Adapter along with a Wi-Fi, or a 3G connection, it is possible to watch live sporting events, news, popular shows and On Demand titles.

Get a broadband-connected Hopper™ Whole-Home HD DVR and a Sling Adapter if you want to be able to manage new recordings and move selected programs to your connected device. The app itself is free for current customers, with the option to set up multiple profiles and include parental filters.

TV Programming

It is possible to watch DirecTV on one of the connected devices using the DirecTV App™. It is possible to access over 5,000 movies, 10,000 TV shows, and exclusive live events using this app. Also, you can watch video content on a laptop or computer by going to the channel’s website and signing into your DirecTV account.

It is possible to watch any channel live on the connected device on your home Wi-Fi network, but it limits streaming to a selection of channels on a 3G/4G/Wi-Fi not connected to your receiver.

AT&T

For customers of the U-verse service, there is an official app that serves as the screener and the remote. That means the app lets you watch live or On Demand programs, control the viewing from any connected device, and manage the Total Home DVR®. The availability of the app is a lot more limited than the ones on this list, although it works on popular devices such as Amazon, Apple, and Android devices.

For those people who prefer watching on a computer or laptop, specific channels can be accessed by visiting respective websites and signing into your AT&T account.
